Overcoming gender discrimination

Simran Bagga, Head of Engineering, Omnix International

There has been a radical shift in the technology industry with gender diversity and inclusion high on the agenda, especially in the Middle East. Continuous learning, acquiring new skills, being a trusted advisor, having a can-do attitude, fostering strong partnerships, have been instrumental in overcoming gender discrimination and providing a level playing field.

There is a lot more work to be done to encourage women to be proactive, agile and lead from the front. Simran leads, manages, and drives sales, marketing, and the technical organisation within Omnix Engineering.

I am passionate about ensuring interactions with partners and customers are enriching and meaningful. Thinking of innovative ideas, putting them into practice and learning from outcomes keeps the thrill and excitement of work going. I also encourage transparency, trust, open communication, and adherence to compliance with teammates.

Driving my team to unleash their full potential in an open communicative and transparent work environment, practicing an open-door policy, challenging my team to try something new, be a game changer, viewing life and work from different lenses are some of the interesting aspects of my role as a leader.

To be able to make a difference in a male-dominated technology world is not an easy feat. Building a niche brand and delivering to the expectations of partners and customers is a continuous process, one that requires skillset, market intelligence and resilience. While my role is demanding, I believe from each new challenge arises a new opportunity.
