These has been a definite increase in diversity awareness, and that diversity does not just apply to gender. Over the last few years, the industry has seen a step change in the way different groups are embraced within the working environment.

Companies have recognised that when they promote inclusion and proactively illustrate to employees that regardless of who they are, they are valued and make a meaningful impact, they are able to drive retention and a happier, engaged workforce.

Sumi’s marketing function is focussed on driving brand awareness, generating demand, working with the company’s partner ecosystem and delighting its customers.

Sumi feels fortunate to work in the technology industry, and has personally never felt marginalised, something she believes is extremely important in any organisation. Culture and tone are set by leaders, not necessarily by words printed on your office wall. When your top executives lead by example, the values they illustrate permeate throughout the organisation.

For Sumi, the answer is clear, her team. She feels honoured to lead teams with diverse experiences, points of view and personalities and states how she gets her energy from engaging with them on a daily basis. I get true satisfaction when I see each and every one of them succeed. My role is to ensure they are bringing the best versions of themselves to work every day.

With her many roles and responsibilities, the most challenging aspect is maintaining a work-life balance. I am very conscious about that and honestly find it a struggle. It is something I need to master better.
